Getting a buddy for my boy?

Post by dani. on Sun Aug 31, 2014 2:48 am

I picked up a new bare naked rat on Tuesday. He is 8 months old, and is not neutured.

When he was with his first owner, he struggled with his litter mates - all boys I believe, and thrived when his 2nd owner(I'm his 3rd) took him on as a single rattie.

Looking advice on getting him a buddy. Girl? Boy? Pair? Stay solo?

If I go for another rattie, I want to give this the best ever chance of a successful rattie friendship. I would prefer not to have two single ratties. I know there isn't a 100% success rate, but I want to give it the best chance.

What do you think?

Well,id recommend two young males-someine else on here might kniw the best age as im mostly a doe person. Two babies would mean if they didnt get in the babies wouldnt be alone, also they would provide a less threatening male presence to him.

Thank you.

And is there anywhere in Ireland that I could get rescue buddies from?

Where are you based? We sometimes have rescues needing homes here at the IFRA but none i know of right this minute im afraid.Sometimes the DSPCA has rats if you want to try getting into contact with them.I would advise caution though with other rescues, some unfortunately are not all about the welfare of the animals Sad so just use your common sense Smile

I am up north - Co Tyrone, in Northern Ireland.

Can travel if the right rattie was available (would appreciate a rattie train if its really really far).

Although perhaps getting a bit ahead of myself - gotta research this a bit further first.

All advice much appreciated!

In your situation, it may be best for you to think about traveling to Scotland for a pair of babies? Smile

Hello I'm looking to rehome my older male, because his cage mate passed away a few days ago. If you would like to give it a go to see if the two of would hit it off we might be able to arrange something.
This is my thread here.
