Olga the Ferret... looking for a home.

Post by Zoundz on Fri Jan 06, 2012 11:02 pm

OK... so yesterday we got a call about a ferret in need - and went up to Cork to collect her. She'd been living outside, and a nice lady had let her into the house, but then called rescue to collect her. So rescue called us - and off we trot to foster her. She's a sweet thing, can bite when agitated, which she does get if you hold her much - but there's no real malice in it. We want to be careful for now though, with her having lived outside, we don't want her passing any illness onto us!

Anyway - here she is - we've called her Olga after a character in a film Karl likes Smile

Oh gosh she is so lovely! My ferret Toki bit the whole time when we first got her. We just popped her in a carrier when ever she would get a bit wild and that sorted it. If she latches onto you and you cant get her off just scruff her. Its what their mums do so they usually go limp and yawn for long enough to get your skin free (a little tip that has saved my fingers a few times hehe). I hope you find her a good home when shes all better. No chance of you keeping her yourself? Wink

Thanks for the tips! Smile

No we can't keep her, we can't really do her justice, we have so much on already with the animals we have, I just can't add another species. It's a shame as she's gorgeous, but no.

No problem! If you are having any trouble with her just ask. Toki was pretty wild when we got her so I've gone through a fair few bites and temper tantrums Laugh Is she spayed yet?
Its a pity you cant keep her but at least she is safe until you find the perfect home. I wonder if she was a hunting ferret. Sometmes hunters lose their ferrets down rabbit holes (ferret decides to eat the bunny and falls asleep underground) and leave them. Its terrible but some feel its not worth digging up the place to get them back Sad

It wouldn't be the first time tbh. He suggested I should rehome Rio at one point because I said she mouthed and puppy nipped until she was 6 months old. It took me saying that she was now nearly 2 and well over that stage before he relented. He comes across as a very forceful man with his animals to me.

Isnt mouthing a natural stage for most young mammals at some time in their development?from my experience in childcare, i can tell you it certainly is in human children Laugh

yeah, especially in carnivores, when you consider playing is how they learn valuable life skills it's no wonder biting is involved Laugh like human kids playing chase, and they certainly can't be expected to know it without being taught Roll Eyes (I don't even know this person, look at my bitching skillz Tongue ) I dunno why your kids do it though Grace Laugh Laugh

Goodness! What would he think about us trying to find a home for 6 month old Lola - with the breeds she's made of and the fact that she's still at the mouthing, chewing stage!
