Rats cry when mourning their lost cage mate

Post by Francois on Mon Sep 17, 2012 4:05 am

Its not a discovery that makes me all excited, its more a sad thing Sad

I had the batmonitor switched on (forgot about it) and suddenly I hear the "crying" sound on the 25Khz band (similar vocalization of what I recorded From Ted, who lost the fight over an egg, about a month ago)

Since today, I think it has sunken in with Jack that Ted is not coming back. He has been frantically searching for him and keeps sniffing anything that might have Ted's scent.

Then he just lies there in his hammock and "cries".

If it tells us one thing, it is what wonderfull creatures rats are. Cry

For now, lots of extra cuddles for Jack...

So sad to hear that. Dorothy was the same when Blanche passed. Tbh I thought I might lose her too for she wouldn't eat or drink and just curled up in a ball and wouldn't move. If I hadn't got her her 3 new friends, I'm certain she wouldn't be with me she was so depressed.

It must be heartbreaking to hear your rat cry and search for his lost pal. Cry Certainly interesting, but really sad to know..

That's so sad.
I've seen it with so many animals over the years, dogs, cats, rabbits, piggies and rats and other smallies.
Its such a shame they are with us for so little time.
