Animals A and E

Post by smokierat on Sat Mar 09, 2013 11:50 pm

Did anyone see this?To be honest i was not impressed-buck being given orange,no advice on getting the lone buck company, and giving up on the sick rat without even an effort to treat him...not saying he could have been saved but surely you'd look into it more....rant over!

Agreed - I was quite surprised, and would think twice now about recommending her as a good rat vet :/

this is tim - he was the rat i posted about seeking a home a while ago! i certainly wasnt impressed about the orange myself, but the other buck was in an awful state, far worse than what was shown on tv. the 'carer' does know that rats need company, but hes not keeping him. if anyone would like to offer little tim a home though, let me know Big Grin Big Grin

Thanks for posting that Siofradh! Smile I could see that rat needed to be put to sleep - wouldn't have hesitated myself - it was more how little was explained that bothered me. I think perhaps I'd personally have felt better if more thought was given to the remaining rat - and company mentioned for him. Also, if she had explained what the potential problems could be, and why she doesn't feel it worth treating - what differs it from an ear infection etc say.

To be honest, what worried me most was the blase attitude to disease risk... I'd have at the very least had them both tested for Lepto, and would have been handling a total minimum, not to mention precautionary antibiotics!

yeah, that was my issue too-when something like that is on tv,it really needs to be explained in full for oeople because you'l never know who will get the wrong idea when it comes to caring for an animal properly...but thinking about it now, maybe she wasent given the oppertunity with the way the program was set up,time allocation/editing etc.pity though, good oppertunity to get good info out there
