Post-Op

Post by smokierat on Thu Apr 25, 2013 9:43 pm

Annie had a lump removed on Tues, everything went fine and she was sent home still on pain relief. We got baytril and metacam to take home, shes taking baytril hidden in food no problem.Metacam is a different story Roll Eyes i managed to trick her into eating it yesterday, but no go today Sad She seems bright and happy in herself, the incision is quite small and looks good-it was a relatively small lump under her left arm.She is eating, active and her usual sweet, gentle, funny self but im worried she could be hiding thd pain Meh Basically, its been a while since we've had a lump removal here and im wondering, how long do people recommend pain relief for?should i be really worried shes not taking it or should she be okay?

Did you try mackerel or sardines in tomato sauce?
Haven't had to medicate rats yet, but only thing that works with small dog who thinks worm tablets are poison! I swear she's psychic and knows when I try and dose them, no matter how sneaky I am.

Metacam is a bugger to hide in food - I would use children's nurofen syrup - most rats like it (even without hiding it in things), and it's just as good (personally I prefer it!)

Ugh yeah. I've only ever given it for a couple of days after, I seem to remember Lew having a good tip for it in the sticky
